What You Need To Know BEFORE You Buy A Hot Tub!

Before you buy a hot tub, ANY kind of hot tub, there are several factors every potential hot tub owner needs to be aware of! Even if you are only thinking about getting a hot tub, or if you are just looking around, here are a few things you need to watch for while looking at different brands and models:

How long has the manufacturer been in business? Many large home improvement chain stores, such as Home Depot, will pick up cheaper models of tubs by newer manufacturers. The low price and ready availability of these products appeal to the general public, and the brand may be popular for a few years until a flaw is discovered and the line is discontinued. If you are the owner of such a tub, you may have called a service technician when it broke down, only to discover that the manufacturer has gone out of business and the parts required to fix your tub are no longer available. What a disaster!

How much does the tub cost, compared to tubs of similar dimentions from other manufacturers? Beware of "great deals" and "great savings." In the hot tub business, there is some truth to the phrase "you get what you pay for." If a tub from one manufacturer is significantly cheaper than tubs of similar dimensions from other manufacturers, buyer beware! The only way manufacturers can sell cheap hot tubs is to skimp on some of the most essential elements.

What does the tub look like underneath? If visiting a hot tub showroom, ask the salesperson to remove the access panel so you can see underneath the hot tub. Some dealers will refuse to remove the panel or will be hesitant to comply with your request because they don't want you to see what's inside! If you see corrugated plastic dividers, newspaper instead of insulation, fiberglass house insulation, wiring hanging loose, or anything else that looks shoddy, cheap, or badly made... well, you can probably make that decision yourself!

What does the fine print say? Ask the salesperson what sort of "warranty conditions" the manufacturer has. Then ask for a copy of the warranty card. Almost all manufacturers limit what is covered, and the hot tub owner is forced to swallow the cost (Beachcomber Hot Tubs is the rare exception to this rule).
