FAQ's

Who can I trust to give me reliable information on hot tubs? If you're satisfied with the information you've been getting from your retailer, by all means purchase what you think is best. Really, stop here and read no further. But if you're worried you're not getting the straight goods about buying a ot tub, read on! Beachcomber has been making hot tubs since 1978, which makes them one of the oldest companies in a very young industry. And in young industries, there can be companies more interested in making a quick buck than creating lasting value for customers. Beachcomber has made it their business to provide accurate information about hot tubs and continually strive to improve their products and service. We feel it is this committment that has helped them become the leader in any market they enter. As a family business, they put their heart and soul into making the best hot tubs in the world.

Does more horsepower in a hot tub motor mean a better massage? More horsepower is not necessarily better. In fact, Beachcomber works with their engineers to reduce horsepower and find better ways of doing more with less. The challenge here is to use available horsepower effectively so that each jetting location delivers just the right power formassage. When you lower horsepower and use it more effectively, you use less energy and pay less to run your hot tub, but you still get a wonderful massage.

Do more jets in a hot tub make it better quality? No. As with horsepower, more is not necessarily better. Many manufacturers drill as many jets as they think they need to sell their hot tub. The fact is that the more holes are drilled in the surface, the weaker the hot tub wall and structure become. Beachcomber engineers all of their hot tubs to give every model a lifetime structural guarantee. At the same time, they make sure you get to choose the type of jet and massage you need. Beachcomber's WaterPort System lets you select the massage insert that gives you the number of jets you want, the type of massage (they offer many different types), and the size and intensity of spray you want with our total body massage. So you can have exactly the number and kind of jets you want, but without all the holes.

What should I expect to pay to heat a hot tub? The short answer is pennies a day. Let us explain. Beachcomber has 15 different sizes of hot tubs and motors. And electricity costs vary from place to place. So let's take Beachcomber's largest hot tub, the 750, and put it to the test. You can run it for a month for less than it would cost to go to the movies with your partner. Beachcomber has been able to make even their largest model inexpensive to run because we've focused on developing energy efficient, environmentally-friendly products since the early 1980's.

What makes Beachcomber's Protec Hot Tub so different? The Protec Hot Tub is more comfortable, more energy-efficient, and safer than any other hot tub. How did Beachcomber do it? First, they moved the motor and pump outside the tub cavity, which created more room and allowed for the tub to be insulated on all four sides. Every nook and cranny is filled with insulation, which makes Beachcomber's Protec Hot Tub the most energy efficient hot tub available today.

What is the difference between Beachcomber's Guarantee and the other manufacturer's "Limited Warranty"? A limited warranty protects the manufacturer, not the customer. Buying a hot tub is a major purchase, but few people understand what can go wrong. Beachcomber has a guarantee to protect the purchaser. They are proud of how well they look after their customers after they purchase a hot tub. It's still a young industry and people are not as familiar with buying a hot tub as they are with other household appliances. We recommend that you check closely and make sure you don't buy a hot tub or spa with a limited warranty that has incorporated outright exclusions, limitations, and disclaimers. Beachcomber's Guarantee is simple on all of their hot tubs. They protect you 100% with the Beachcomber Guarantee.

What do you recommend for treating and cleaning hot tub water? Water quality and cleanliness are important aspects of caring for your hot tub. That is why Beachcomber offers you a complete line of Beachcomber Water Care products, as well as Clean & Simple Water Care programs, specifically designed to suit your needs and maximize your enjoyment of your Beachcomber Hot Tub. It is our commitment to enhance your relaxation by providing simple ways to maintain your water.

Is it hard to keep a hot tub running properly? It could be if the hot tub doesn't have Beachcomber's Management System. Beachcomber installs this user-friendly control pad on the hot tub entrance lip to let you manage the heating an dcleaning functions automatically so your hot tub is always ready for use when you are. This computerized system lets you control the maintenance of your Beachcomber - and saves you money in energy costs on many models. There's even a special mode for when you're away - or for your hot tub at the cottage or second home. You control it all with the touch of a finger. Nothing could be simpler - or more energy efficient.

Is an ozonator system the best method to treat and clean hot tub water? No, an ozonator generates a gas that is released directly into your hot tub water. Beachcomber believes that this is not a natural way to treat and clean your water, and it bothers them to do so. They have worked with independent test laboratories to find a way to have zero gas off in an ozonator system, yet they still would not recommend this method to treat or oxidize your hot tub. Beachcomber makes it available as a pre-assembly option attachment to your hot tub that can be added very easily, but not until Beachcomber can attain more outside data to support that ozone is a good, safe oxidizer will they recommend ozone.

Is installing permanent pillows a good method of manufacturing? No! We do not recommend buying a hot tub with pillows molded right into the material. Customers have told us that one of the biggest problems with this method of construction is that the permanent pillow absorbs odors from the bathers and spa water. This is not only unpleasant but also very expensive to correct. As an alternative, Beachcomber has developed comfortable contoured neck recesses without pillows that still give the customer the option of adding pillows if needed.

What can a family business do for me that a big corporation can't? A family business like Beachcomber can give you service with a personal touch. A big corporation just can't do that.

Does having more than one motor make a hot tub run better? What is the difference between a motor and a pump, anyway? No, you don't need more than one motor in a hot tub for the same reason you don't have more than one motor in your car. One motor provides all the power you need. Over the past 20 years, Beachcomber has designed and refined a single motor that serves multiple functions and multiple speeds. The single motor works best because it requires less service and maintenance. As to the difference between a motor and a pump: The motor is what drives the pump, and the pump is what drives water through the massage jets.

Is having a small diaphragm or circulating pump running 24 hours a day the quietest and most efficient way to treat your hot tub water? No, small circulating pumps are fine for fish tanks or ponds, but we would not recommend you rely on this circulation method to clean or heat your hot tub. Beachcomber has continued to build, improve, and engineer effective energy saving methods for over a quarter of a century. Quietness in daily operation at Beachcomber is created through a number of their exclusive product technology patents which you should understand clearly before making a hot tub purchase. Hush pumps, Protec, simple floor drains, oversized suction plumbing, and the Microfilter are just a few unique Beachcomber features. The combintation of these features gives you the quietest and most efficient hot tub available today.

I'm confused, what does max rating a pump mean? Max rating means rating a motor's horsepower by its maximum or peak output. It may sound like you're getting a more powerful motor, but it's just not so. Beachcomber rates their motors at continuous operating conditions. A rating of 3 hp under normal conditions will provide more power than a pump max-rated at 7 hp. What Beachcomber gives you is more therapeutic jet action with less horsepower - so you use less electricity and save money. Is there a big difference between a 33" or 29" deep hot tub as compared to a 36" deep one? Yes, the deeper hot tub gives you more comfort, especially for your feet and abdomen. The 3 to 7 inches in hnee room lets you stretch out better. One of the only reasons for a low profile spa would be for indoor use.

We hardly ever use our backyard. Should we put our hot tub there? Absolutely. You can extend your home by creating fabulous outdoor living space with a Beachcomber Hot Tub and "Instant Room" Swingbrella. You can enjoy the privacy of your home with your own personal Beachcomber Instant Room for your hot tub, patio furniture, and outdoor living. Increase your living space and enjoy a relaxing, stress-free environment year round!

Is it easy to install a hot tub? Yes, very easy. A hot tub can be delivered and set up in your backyard in a few minutes, and moved again if you decide to move. All you need is a level space, a garden hose and outdoor tap, and an electrical line like the one for your kitchen stove. You can install a Beachcomber Hot Tub in your back yard, on a deck, or even inside your home. Bellingham Hot Tub & Spa can help you pick out the perfect site on your property. He or she can even help make special arrangements for getting your hot tub into hard-to-reach places.

Can we take the hot tub with us when we move? Yes. Beachcomber makes their Protec and Portable hot tubs so they can be moved in a few minutes very easily. All you need at your new location is a flat spot, electricity, and water from an outside garden hose.

Is a white hot tub the easiest to clean and care for? No. A white surface shows every speck of dirt or sand. Beachcomber has many available colors, including white or marble, but we recommend a textured granite color finish to match your home decor.

Would you recommend a ceramic tile line glued to the plastic tub finish? No. Tiles glued to any type of finish just cause maintenance or replacement problems later. We recommend a clean, textured cast acrylic Beachcomber Acuralux finish for trouble free maintenance.

Why does Beachcomber only use vertical cabinetry on all hot tubs, never horizantal? It's simple. Horizontal siding holds water and moisture, while vertical siding lets water flow as though moving down a drainpipe. This reduces the chance of rot while extending the life and beauty of the hot tub.

Why does Beachcomber only use western red cedar? Western red cedar is rot resistant, doesn't check or warp and has better insulating qualities than any other wood available today. Native American carvers have long used western red cedar to craft totem poles, some of which have lasted hundreds of years even though exposed to the elements.

Where is the best place to put my hot tub? We recommend that you install your hot tub about 10 feet from your back door. This makes it easier to get to and from all year long and helps reduce exposure to wind so you can enjoy your soak even more.
